Oxford is awash with historic buildings, and for our guide weve selected a number of pubs that are of national architectural interest as determined by English Heritage.
English Heritage is a non-departmental British Governmental body. It’s remit is broadly to preserve and manage the man-made historic environment of England. It maintains a list of assets and if a building such as a pub appears, it is said to be ‘listed’.
The pubs featured in our app are all Grade II listed apart from The Mitre which claims a Grade II* listing. ‘Listing’ marks a buildings architectural or historic importance.
The Heritage Listing notes are taken verbatim from English Heritage’s ‘National Heritage List for England’ and are © English Heritage 2017.
The English Heritage List Text Entries contained in this material were obtained on 3rd March 2017.
